Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Las Lajas The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas is one of the most beautiful and iconic places in Colombia. It is located in the department of Nariño, very close to the border with Ecuador. The current construction began in 1916 and was completed in 1949, although the site had already been a place of pilgrimage since the 18th century. Legend has it that in 1754, an Indigenous woman named María Mueses and her daughter witnessed an apparition of the Virgin Mary on one of the stone walls of the canyon. Since then, the site has become a very important spiritual center for thousands of believers. I had the opportunity to visit this sanctuary with my family last year. We traveled early in the morning, and when we arrived, the landscape left us speechless.
